WBEA’S PLACE IN HISTORY SECURED IN UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON’S LIBRARY SPECIAL COLLECTIONS
HOUSTON, TX – AUGUST 29, 2006 -- The Women’s Business Enterprise Alliance (WBEA) has been offered the opportunity to begin a virtual time capsule. With the generous support of the University of Houston Libraries and the Friends of Women’s Studies, WBEA will be making contributions to the Women’s Archive Research Center of WBEA events, newsletters, and women business owners.
“Many years from now, students, news reporters, anthropologists, and simply curious people will be able to research the growth of businesses owned and operated by women in the Houston area. In addition to snapshots in time, we will be chronicling the growth of corporate and government relationships”, says Richard Dickerson, University Archivist. The University of Houston Library Special Collections exists to preserve its collections and to make them available now and for generations to come. Materials do not circulate but are used in the Library’s supervised Reading Room.
WBEA Executive Director, Sandy Poffinbarger states, “We are excited because WBEA’s story is one of assisting the advancement of entrepreneurial women through opening doors and helping them build alliances with one another and potential buyers. This project will truly mark WBEA’s place in history.” |
