ABOUT WBEA
More People… More Power… Cleaner Air

Our beautiful state of Texas will attract 6.3 million new residents within the next decade!  The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) reports that current electricity reserve margins will drop below reliable levels by 2009 with the expected population growth.  The state needs more electric supply and it needs it now.  TXU has a plan that will add safe and reliable electric generating capacity to meet the growing demand through 2015.

Certified WBEs, from WBEA and WBC – Southwest, along with minority business owners, were invited to the Arlington Convention Center south of Dallas on November 6, to hear many details of the TXU plan.  Through rain and storm, we trekked to the forum to learn how WBEs can help.  Bechtel and Fluor are the companies providing engineering, procurement and construction for TXU.  Supplier diversity was heavily committed to in the multi-tier opportunities presented at this forum.

While solar power and wind power will be utilized, it is coal power that will provide the most secure, inexpensive, and plentiful domestic resource for eight of the proposed new power units at existing Texas power plants.  TXU will spend $2.5 billion on environmental controls to voluntarily reduce overall key air emissions by 20% while doubling its generating capacity. This $10 billion project using investor’s money is expected to generate 40,000 new jobs during construction, 21,000 jobs during operations and add $14 billion to our state gross product.
